Manipur Governor Sushri Anusuiya Uikey graced the launch of the Assam Rifles Women Polo Team at the Haflong Auditorium, IGAR (South), Mantripukhri, Imphal East, today, heralding a significant moment in the State’s sporting history.
In her address, Governor Uikey lauded Manipur’s esteemed reputation for its cultural heritage and sporting excellence, particularly in polo, known as Sagol Kangjei. She emphasised the sport’s symbolic significance in representing Manipur’s vibrant identity, marked by agile ponies and skilled players.
The emergence of the Assam Rifles Women Polo Team was hailed by Governor Uikey as a tribute to Manipur’s rich legacy and a step towards a more inclusive future. Drawing from her advocacy for women’s empowerment, she praised the Assam Rifles for promoting gender equality and providing opportunities for women in traditionally male-dominated domains.
Governor Uikey celebrated the resilience of Manipuri women, with the Assam Rifles Women Polo Team embodying their indomitable spirit. Against the backdrop of recent events, she highlighted the team’s role in fostering unity and healing within communities, reaffirming the shared commitment to peace and harmony.
Offering her best wishes to the team, Governor Uikey emphasised the values of courage, discipline, and camaraderie inherent in polo, which resonate with Manipur’s pursuit of prosperity.
Additionally, Governor Uikey commended the Assam Rifles for their steadfast role during ethnic strife in 2023 and their efforts in promoting educational excellence, especially in providing education to children from all communities in Manipur.
The program witnessed the felicitation of Polo Team players by Governor Uikey, in the presence of State Security Advisor Kuldiep Singh, Director General of Assam Rifles Lt Gen PC Nair, IG Major Gen Ravroop Singh, and other officers and soldiers of the Assam Rifles.
