In a poignant ceremony, Ambassador Hiroshi Suzuki of Japan joined Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio in inaugurating the Kohima Peace Memorial and laying the foundation stone for an Eco-Park in Kohima today.
Reflecting on the solemn occasion, Ambassador Suzuki extended his heartfelt condolences to the people of Nagaland, acknowledging the profound suffering endured during the Battle of Kohima. He highlighted the significance of commemorating this historical event, which holds a sombre place in Japan’s collective memory alongside the Battle of Imphal as one of the most devastating battles of World War II.
Expressing his deep honour to witness the inauguration of the Kohima Peace Memorial, Ambassador Suzuki stated, “This monument enables us to stand here in solemn silence, and offer our most sincere prayers to all the victims of the battle. I extend my deepest sympathy and heartfelt condolences to the people of Nagaland who had to endure indescribable sufferings brought forth by the Battle of Kohima. May the souls rest in peace.”
