In a significant operation, security forces in Jammu and Kashmir successfully neutralised one of the NIA or National Investigation Agency’s top targets, a LeT commander, during an encounter last night in Kulgam district. The encounter, which occurred in the Redwani Payeen area of south Kashmir, resulted in the elimination of three terrorists.
The operation was launched following a search operation initiated by security forces late on the night of Monday. Among those killed was Basit Ahmed Dar, a prominent figure in the terrorist hierarchy and commander of LeT or Lashkar-e-Taiba’s offshoot group, The Resistant Front-TRF. Dar, a resident of Redwani Payeen, had been involved in multiple incidents of violence, including attacks on civilians and security personnel.
Additionally, two other LeT terrorists, identified as Momin Gulzar and Fahim Ahmed Baba, were also eliminated during the encounter, further bolstering the success of the security operation.
“It’s a big achievement for us as they were involved in 18 killings. These killings include those of security personnel, civilians and minorities,” said Inspector General of Police Kashmir VK Birdi.
In the wake of escalating tensions following an attack on an Indian Air Force convoy in Poonch district on May 4, resulting in the tragic death of an officer and injuries to four others, security forces in the Union territory have significantly heightened their search operations.
Recently released CCTV footage and photographs depict three individuals suspected of involvement in the attack. Identified as Illiyas, a former Pakistan Army commando, a Pakistani terrorist known as Hadoon (or Hadun), and Abu Hamza, the commander of Lashkar-e-Taiba operating under the code-name “Abu Hamza,” these individuals are of particular interest to security forces as they intensify efforts to ensure the safety and security of the region.
