Meghalaya Tourism Minister Paul Lyngdoh announced that tenders for the Shillong Ropeway Project are scheduled to be opened after the conclusion of the Model Code of Conduct-MCC by June 15, with work expected to be awarded by July.
In a significant move, the Meghalaya Cabinet approved the State’s first passenger ropeway project in September 2022. The project, estimated at a cost of Rs 138 crore, will cover Lawsohtun to Shillong Peak, enhancing connectivity and tourism prospects in the region.
Paul Lyngdoh stated, “The expression of interest was floated but a corrigendum is being issued which takes care of certain aspects of the project which were not present in the draft expression of interest.”
Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma clarified that projects managed by the ARSS Infrastructure Projects Ltd are being executed by the National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited or NHIDCL.
CM Sangma debunked reports alleging the State Government involvement in the selection process, stressing that it was solely the decision of the Central Government agency.
Taking to the X, the Meghalaya CM wrote, “This project is being implemented by NHIDCL, Road Transport and Highways Ministry. The selection of contractor was done by Central Government agency and not by State Government.”
