Bharat is set to finalise an agreement with Iran on Monday, entailing the management of the southeastern Iranian port of Chabahar for the forthcoming decade, as per media reports.
Sources, requesting anonymity, indicate that Bharat’s Shipping Minister Sarbananda Sonowal is slated to visit Iran to formalise the accord.
As of now, the Indian Government has refrained from commenting on the matter.
Bharat has been actively engaged in the development of a segment of the Chabahar port, strategically positioned along Iran’s southeastern coast along the Gulf of Oman. This initiative aims to facilitate the transportation of goods to Iran, Afghanistan, and Central Asian nations, bypassing the port of Karachi in neighbouring Pakistan.
Despite the impediments posed by US sanctions on Iran, progress in the development of the port has been somewhat sluggish.
