The State Election Commission of Tripura has kickstarted preparations for the upcoming Three-tier Panchayat elections in the State. The process includes compiling the voter list and finalising polling stations.
Saradindu Chaudhuri, IAS (Retd), State Election Commissioner, addressed reporters, noting that as per regulations, the elections are slated for the last week of July. He expressed optimism in completing necessary preparations on time to propose the election schedule to the State Government.
Chaudhuri highlighted the importance of the State Government’s stance, insisting on the completion of tasks such as gram panchayat demarcation and the review meeting conducted by Block Development Officers. Last year’s figures included 591 Gram Panchayats, with approximately 16 new additions and additional seats in Panchayat Samiti and Zila Parishad.
The timeline for electoral procedures was also outlined: the draft voter list will be published on June 6, 2024, followed by a period for claims and objections from June 13 to 18, 2024. The final voter list is set to be published on June 24, 2024, with the electoral roll based on age as of January 1, 2024.
