In a significant development for national security, Assam Police have apprehended two individuals suspected of having connections to the Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT), an organisation with ties to the proscribed terror group Al Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent or AQIS. The arrests took place at Guwahati Railway Station.
The detained individuals, identified as Bahar Mia (30) and Rarely Mia (40), are Bangladeshi nationals residing in Bharat without proper documentation. They are accused of involvement in establishing a terror network in Assam.
The Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of the Assam Police stated, “Two suspected cadres, Bahar Mia (30), and Rarely Mia (40), of the Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT), an affiliate association of a terror outfit namely Al Qaeda In Indian Subcontinent (AQIS- an organisation banned in India with all its affiliated groups) were apprehended at Guwahati Railway Station by an Assam Police team yesterday.”
ABT, known for its radical ideology, has been linked to various terrorist activities in Bangladesh and has expanded its operations into neighbouring countries.
This development shows the ongoing challenges faced by law enforcement agencies in securing porous borders and preventing the spread of terrorist networks. The arrests serve as a reminder of the critical need for heightened vigilance and proactive measures to safeguard national security against extremist threats.
Additionally, recent incidents such as the detention of individuals in Tripura for illegal entry from Bangladesh highlight the broader concerns surrounding border security and the urgent necessity for comprehensive strategies to address these challenges effectively.
