The Solung Etor festival holds significance as it marks the commencement of the annual agricultural cycle for the community, particularly associated with the traditional practice of community fencing of agricultural lands. The term “Etor” itself denotes ‘fencing’ in the Adi language.
During the festival, community members join hands to erect new fences to safeguard the agricultural fields for the upcoming season, ensuring the protection of crops from grazing animals. Traditional rituals are performed, and prayers are offered for the well-being of domestic animals and the prosperity of the village.
