Delhi Police are expected to visit the Chief Minister’s residence on Friday. They will investigate and record statements from policemen and staff present during the alleged assault on Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Swati Maliwal, sources have revealed.
An FIR was filed at the Civil Lines police station in connection with the alleged assault on the Rajya Sabha MP on Thursday. Maliwal has accused Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s personal secretary, Bibhav Kumar, of assaulting her.
The police plan to have Maliwal’s statement recorded before a magistrate under Section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code. This section allows a magistrate to record statements or confessions during a police investigation prior to trial.
Maliwal made a PCR call from the Chief Minister’s residence at 9:34 pm on May 13. Sources indicate the Delhi Police may issue a notice to Bibhav Kumar, requiring him to join the investigation.
According to the FIR, Maliwal stated in her complaint that she was slapped, hit on the stomach, attacked, and kicked by Bibhav Kumar at the Chief Minister’s residence. The FIR includes charges under Sections 354 (assault or criminal force to outrage modesty), 506 (criminal intimidation), 509 (word, gesture, or act intended to insult modesty), and 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) of the IPC, among other sections.
Following her complaint, Maliwal posted on X, “What happened to me was very bad. I have given my statement to the police on the incident that happened to me. I hope that appropriate action will be taken. The last few days have been very difficult for me. I thank those who prayed for me. Those who tried to do character assassination said she was doing it on the instructions of the other party, may God keep them happy too.”
