In a significant move to boost cricket in the Northeastern States of Bharat, the Board of Control for Cricket in India or BCCI has laid the foundation stone for a state-of-the-art indoor cricket facility. BCCI Secretary Jay Shah announced this development on X, emphasising the board’s commitment to enhancing cricket infrastructure in the region.
Shah highlighted that the BCCI is particularly focused on improving cricket in the six Northeastern States: Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, and Sikkim. These States have not experienced the same level of cricket development as other States like Assam, Bengal and Jharkhand.
In addition to the new indoor facility, Shah also revealed plans for launching a new pavilion in Mizoram. He detailed that the indoor facility will feature top-notch indoor nets, swimming pools, and fitness centres, providing athletes with year-round training options.
Shah’s post read, “Honoured to have laid the foundation stone for BCCI’s upcoming state-of-the-art indoor training facilities in the North East! Our cricketers from six States – Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, and Sikkim will soon benefit from world-class indoor nets, indoor swimming pools, and fitness centres for year-round training options. This, along with the launch of the new pavilion in Mizoram, is big steps towards our vision to enhance cricket infrastructure in the region, exciting times ahead!”
Over the past two years, the BCCI has dedicated significant efforts to cricket development, particularly at the grassroots level and in women’s cricket. The launch of the Women’s Premier League has been a cornerstone of this initiative, driving substantial growth in women’s cricket.
Additionally, many States have initiated their own T20 leagues, aiming to develop more players and strengthen the cricket ecosystem in Bharat.
