The dynamic Indian men’s badminton duo of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty have reinforced their position at the summit of the latest Badminton World Federation (BWF) Rankings, strengthening their status as the world’s best following their resounding victory at the Thailand Open last week.
Renowned for their stellar performances, Asian Games gold medallist pair Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy emerged victorious in the men’s doubles title at the Thailand Open Super 500 badminton tournament on Sunday. They showcased their exceptional prowess by defeating China’s formidable duo, Chen Bo Yang and Liu Yi, in straight sets to secure yet another prestigious title. With this win, they now boast two Thailand Open titles, having previously clinched the championship in 2019.
In the latest rankings update released on Tuesday, the formidable ‘Sat-Chi’ tandem ascended two spots to reclaim the coveted top rank, amassing a remarkable 99,670 points.
Their triumph over Chen and Yi with a commanding 21-15, 21-15 victory marked their ninth BWF world tour title. This victory follows their earlier success at the French Open in March, further cementing their dominance on the badminton circuit.
Reflecting on their latest achievement, Satwik expressed the significance of the Thailand Open in their illustrious career, hoping that this triumph will ignite another winning streak for the duo. Additionally, the Indian pair of Tanisha Crasto and Ashwini Ponnappa, who showcased a stellar performance by reaching the semifinals of the Thailand Open, also climbed two spots to secure the 19th position in the rankings.
Furthermore, rising star shuttler Meiraba Luwang Masnam, who impressed with his remarkable performance in the tournament, including notable victories over world number nine HS Prannoy and world number 54 Mads Christensen, made a significant leap of 13 spots to reach the world number 71 ranking, indicating a promising future in the world of badminton.
