Geyzing witnessed a remarkable turnout as more than 115 enthusiastic runners from Sikkim, Mumbai, Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Kurseong, Mirik and Siliguri converged for the eagerly awaited “Happiness Run 2024,” a thrilling 10-kilometre event.
Organised by the Amar Subba Marathon Man in collaboration with the Geyzing-based Cherry Foundation, the run garnered widespread participation and enthusiasm from across the region.
Setting off from the iconic Kyongsha Stadium, the scenic route meandered through Langang and Tikjek areas, culminating back at the Kyongsha Stadium. The event was ceremoniously inaugurated by Gyalsing DC West IAS M. Bharani Kumar, adding an aura of prestige to the occasion.
In the fiercely competitive women’s open category, Anjali Subba from Gangtok claimed the top spot, followed closely by Bandana Subba from Darjeeling and Sabina Rai from Kalimpong, securing second and third positions, respectively.
Meanwhile, in the men’s open category, Vittal Rajput from Maharashtra clinched the first position, with Ganga Hang Subba from Dentam and Rinchen Lepcha from Gangtok securing second and third places, respectively.
The event also featured dedicated runs for male athletes aged between 36-49 years, with Pravesh Tamang from Darjeeling emerging victorious, followed by Bir Bahadur Rai from Jorethang and Sudip Pradhan from Darjeeling securing second and third places, respectively. Mirik’s Anuda Tamang led the charge in the women’s 36-49 years age category, with Shanti Rai and Sangita Rai from South Sikkim securing second and third positions.
Notably, the run also celebrated the participation of runners above 50 years old, exemplifying the inclusive spirit of the event.
The winners were duly rewarded with cash prizes, medals, and certificates, symbolising their outstanding achievements and dedication to the sport.
Expressing gratitude, Amar Subba extended heartfelt thanks to the Cherry Foundation and its founder, Sushil Tamang, for their invaluable financial support. He also expressed appreciation to the District Administration, District Police, Sports and Youth Affairs, Geyzing, District Hospital, Geyzing, and individuals who provided unwavering support, ensuring the seamless organisation of the run and making it a resounding success.
