The serene Venuban Buddha Vihara at Kunjaban in Tripura capital Agartala will be the site of the grand 2,568th Buddha Jayanti Utsav and Vaishakhi Buddha Purnima celebrations, taking place on May 22-23.
Organised by the Buddha Jayanti Celebration Committee, this two-day event is of great significance to the Buddhist community and all attendees. The celebration will begin with an inauguration ceremony on May 22 at 4:30 pm, led by Tripura Governor Nallu Indrasena Reddy, who will ceremonially light the auspicious lamp.
Governor Reddy will be the chief guest, joined by distinguished guests such as Ven Dr Dhammapiya, Founder and Chancellor of Dhamma Dipa International Buddhist University in Sabroom, and Professor Ganga Prasad Prasain, Vice Chancellor of Tripura University.
Ven Khemachara, the Secretary of Venuban Buddha Vihara, will preside over the ceremony, emphasising the profound significance of the full moon day of Vaisakh, which marks the birth, enlightenment, and Mahaparinirvana of Shakyamuni Buddha.
The event is open to all, reflecting its inclusive spirit. A notable feature of the celebration will be a large sit-and-draw competition designed to engage children in learning about the life and teachings of Lord Buddha.
Scheduled for May 22, the competition will cater to three age groups: 7 years, 7-10 years, and 10-14 years. Participants will be invited to depict various aspects of Buddha’s life, particularly his birth and enlightenment, encouraging a deeper understanding of Buddhist teachings among the younger generation.
