Tripura Chief Minister Prof Dr Manik Saha vehemently criticised the actions of the West Bengal Police, denouncing what he described as “jungle raj” prevailing in the State.
The Chief Minister’s remarks came in response to an incident where the West Bengal Police, allegedly acting under the directives of the Trinamool Congress, halted a BJP rally led by CM Manik Saha. The rally, organised in support of BJP candidate Debashree Chowdhury in Kolkata, was stopped despite having obtained proper permission.
Expressing his dismay, the Tripura CM stated, “We initiated our roadshow, but the police obstructed us, citing lack of permission. However, we had duly submitted permission documents beforehand. This unwarranted obstruction reflects a state of lawlessness. This is election season; are we not allowed to campaign? I vehemently condemn this act.”
Further, he criticised the leadership in West Bengal, particularly targeting the Trinamool Congress, stating, “The incident of blocking our roadshow at Hazra Road is emblematic of arrogance and tyranny, particularly by the leadership in Bengal. This blatant disregard for democratic norms and constitutional rights is an affront to the people of Bengal. The democracy-loving citizens will not tolerate such injustice any longer; they will respond through the ballot.”
