Bharat is set to receive next-generation nuclear fuel this summer, confirmed Russia’s State nuclear corporation Rosatom head Alexey Likhachev. He accentuated Bharat’s significance as a key partner in the nuclear domain, according to a report by Russia Today.
During a recent meeting in Siberia’s Tomsk region, Bharat’s Atomic Energy Commission chairman Ajit Kumar Mohanty was hosted by Likhachev. Mohanty was given a tour of the fourth-generation site, which is slated to house what has been hailed as the safest atomic reactor in history, as reported by RT-Bharat.
Besides, Likhachev appreciated the robust cooperation between the two nations in the nuclear sector. Mohanty and Likhachev held meetings in Tomsk region’s Seversk on Thursday.
Russian and Indian nuclear industries’ leaders toured the place of the Pilot Demonstration Energy Complex or PDEC being constructed in Seversk as a part of the Proryv (the breakthrough) strategic industry project, as per a statement by Rosatom.
During the joint visit, a full-scale discussion took place on the perspective areas of the Russian-Indian cooperation in the nuclear field.
“We are ready to serious expansion of the cooperation with Bharat in the field of using nuclear energy for peaceful purposes. This includes first of all, serial construction of the Russian-designed high-capacity nuclear power units at a new site in Bharat, implementation of land-based and floating low-power generation projects, cooperation in the nuclear fuel cycle area, as well as in the field of non-power applications of nuclear technologies,” stated Alexey Likhachev.
Mohanty visited Tomsk with Russia’s Indian ambassador Vinay Kumar. Apart from this, they toured Tomsk State University and met with regional governor Vladimir Mazur. In his meeting with Mazur, the Ambassador discussed plausible areas of cooperation, including pharmaceuticals, high technology, education and research. At the Tomsk State University, Ambassador Kumar gave an open lecture on “Bharat-Russia relations in the current global scenario” and met with Indian students from various Universities in Tomsk.
