The Indian women’s archery team, consisting of Parneet Kaur, Aditi Swami, and Jyothi Surekha Vennam, secured their third consecutive gold medal at the Archery World Cup on May 25. They triumphed over Turkey in the final of the compound stage two event held in South Korea.
The Indian trio decisively defeated Turkey’s team of Hazal Burun, Ayse Bera Suzer, and Begum Yuva with a score of 232-226, demonstrating their dominance from the start.
Ranked No. 1 in the world, Parneet Kaur, Aditi Swami, and Jyothi Surekha Vennam displayed an overwhelming performance, making the final a one-sided affair. The Indian team won without losing a single point, showcasing their supremacy on the world stage.
The match began competitively, with the Indian archers hitting three X’s on their first three arrows but losing a point each in the next three shots. Despite this, they managed to secure the first round by a narrow margin.
In the second round, the Indian team extended their lead by scoring five 10s with two X’s, demonstrating their skill and precision, and widening the gap by four points over their fifth-seeded Turkish opponents.
Turkey showed resilience in the penultimate round, scoring four 10s, including one X, to match India’s total of 58 points. However, the substantial lead maintained by the Indian team proved insurmountable for Turkey.
This victory marks the third gold medal for the Indian trio at the Archery World Cup, further cementing their status as a formidable team in the sport.
India looks forward to potentially winning two more medals at the ongoing World Cup. Jyothi Surekha Vennam and Priyansh are set to compete against the USA in the compound mixed team final, while Prathamesh Fuge is one win away from securing a medal in the compound category.
