In a display of remarkable dedication to environmental conservation, 75-year-old Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma traded his formal attire for work clothes and joined volunteers in cleaning the polluted Tuikual Lui stream, a tributary of the Tlawng River. Sporting a cowboy hat and sturdy brown working shoes, Lalduhoma worked tirelessly under the sweltering heat, actively participating in the Mega River Cleaning program organised by Save the Riparian Group and the NSS Cell of Mizoram’s Sports & Youth Service.
The event, which saw enthusiastic participation from youth volunteers, aimed to address the pollution plaguing the Tlawng River, particularly caused by waste from Aizawl City. Lalduhoma, while collecting bottles and garbage from the stream, shared his observations on the river’s pollution and praised the relentless efforts of the Save the Riparian Group in raising awareness and prompting concrete actions from the government.
