The Lok Sabha elections’ sixth phase for 58 parliamentary constituencies recorded a cumulative voter turnout of 49.2 per cent by 3 pm on Saturday, according to data shared by the Election Commission. West Bengal led the turnout figures with an impressive 70.19 per cent, followed by Jharkhand at 54.34 per cent and Odisha at 48.44 per cent.
Other States and Union Territories that participated in this phase reported varied turnout percentages: Uttar Pradesh at 43.95 per cent, Jammu and Kashmir at 44.41 per cent, Bihar at 45.21 per cent, Haryana at 46.26 per cent, and Delhi at 44.58 per cent.
This phase involved a diverse array of constituencies, including eight seats in Bihar, all 10 seats in Haryana, one seat in Jammu and Kashmir, four in Jharkhand, all seven seats in Delhi, six in Odisha, 14 in Uttar Pradesh, and eight in West Bengal. A total of 889 candidates are competing in this round.
Simultaneously, Odisha is also conducting its assembly elections for 42 constituencies during this phase. All parliamentary seats in Delhi and Haryana were part of the polling in this phase.
Notable constituencies in this phase include New Delhi, North-East Delhi, North-West Delhi, and Chandni Chowk in the national capital; Sultanpur and Azamgarh in Uttar Pradesh; Anantnag-Rajouri in Jammu and Kashmir; Tamluk and Medinipur in West Bengal; Karnal, Kurukshetra, Gurgaon, and Rohtak in Haryana; and Bhubaneswar, Puri, and Sambalpur in Odisha. This phase is crucial for major political parties, including the BJP, Congress, Aam Aadmi Party, and other constituents of the INDIA bloc.
So far, polling has been completed in 428 parliamentary constituencies across 25 States and Union Territories in the first five phases. Over 11.13 crore voters, including 5.84 crore males, 5.29 crore females, and 5,120 third-gender electors, are eligible to vote in this sixth phase. Approximately 11.4 lakh polling officials are involved in conducting the elections for this phase.
The Lok Sabha elections will conclude on June 1, with the seventh phase covering 57 constituencies. The results will be announced on June 4.
