Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma launched a sharp attack on Rahul Gandhi following the Congress MP’s promise to scrap the Agniveer scheme if the INDIA bloc comes to power. Himanta Sarma called Gandhi a “burden” on his mother Sonia Gandhi and accused him of being a traitor for his comments on the Army.
“The youth of our country support schemes like Agniveer, and that’s why thousands are eager to join,” insisted the CM adding, “Rahul Gandhi is a burden on his mother and cannot achieve anything on his own. His remarks against the Army are demoralizing, making him a deshdrohi.”
Besides, Himanta Biswa Sarma claimed the Congress had deceitfully secured victory in Himachal Pradesh. “Rahul Gandhi’s lies helped form the government in Himachal. He is a master at deception,” he added.
The attacks follow Gandhi’s statements that the INDIA bloc would abolish the Agnipath recruitment scheme and provide ₹8,500 per month to women if elected. Speaking at rallies in Bihar, Rahul Gandhi confidently predicted that Narendra Modi would not be re-elected as Prime Minister, citing a nationwide surge in support for the INDIA bloc.
“There is a clear storm in favour of the INDIA bloc across the country,” claimed Rahul Gandhi. “Modi will not be Prime Minister after June 4. We will withdraw the Agnipath scheme and revive closed industries, filling 30 lakh job vacancies.”
Under the Agniveer scheme, introduced by the Union Government in 2022, young soldiers are recruited on a four-year contract. Among them, 75 per cent retire without the benefits granted to regular soldiers.
While addressing a rally in Odisha’s Patkura on May 27, CM Himanta expressed confidence in BJP’s impending victory in the State. “The BJP government will take oath on June 10. On June 11, we will send Pandian back to Tamil Nadu,” he declared, asserting the votes cast thus far indicate a strong win for the BJP.
