Cyclone Remal’s fury wreaked havoc across Northeast Bharat, plunging Mizoram into chaos and despair. The Melthum quarry collapse alone accounts for 14 lives lost, while an additional 14 fatalities are attributed to massive landslides in surrounding areas.
Tragedy struck Salem locality as a landslide claimed the lives of an entire family, adding to the grim tally. Falkawn, Kanan, Kulikawn, and ITI localities bore witness to further casualties inflicted by nature’s wrath.
In a unified response to the crisis, the State disaster response team, paramilitary forces, Young Mizo Association members, and courageous local volunteers launched rescue efforts tirelessly.

In a gesture of compassion, CM Lalduhoma announced a compensation of Rs 15 crore for landslide victims, offering a lifeline to those grappling with loss. Additionally, a compensation of Rs 4 lakhs will be extended to the bereaved families, offering solace amidst the sorrow.
