Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s roadshow in support of BJP nominee Tapas Roy in the Kolkata Uttar Lok Sabha seat was a symbolic journey through the heritage of Bengal, touching three significant destinations associated with iconic figures.
Beginning at the residence of Maa Sarada, the spiritual consort of Ramakrishna Paramahamsa in Bagbazar, North Kolkata, Prime Minister Modi paid homage and engaged with the resident monks.
Continuing the journey, the roadshow paused at the Shyambazar five-point crossing, where the PM garlanded the statue of Subhas Chandra Bose, honouring the legacy of the freedom fighter.
The final stop was the residence of Swami Vivekananda on Simla Street, concluding the roadshow in a tribute to the revered spiritual leader.
Accompanied by State BJP president Sukanta Majumdar, opposition leader in the Assembly Suvendu Adhikari, and party candidates from Kolkata Uttar and Dum Dum Lok Sabha constituencies, the PM’s journey from Shyambazar to Simla Street drew massive crowds, with thousands lining the streets to catch a glimpse and wave at the PM.
The strategic route selection, starting from Maa Sarada’s residence and concluding at Swami Vivekananda’s, highlights the political acumen of PM Modi. This choice holds significance in light of recent remarks by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, criticising certain monks associated with organisations like the Ramakrishna Mission and ISKCON, which the Prime Minister labelled as attempts to appease her party’s voter base.
The roadshow not only showcased political strength but also honored Bengal’s rich cultural and spiritual heritage, resonating deeply with the people of the State.
