In response to the escalating flood crisis in Manipur, Chief Minister N Biren Singh chaired a high-level meeting to devise a comprehensive strategy to mitigate the deluge’s devastating impact. Announcing the coordinated efforts on X, the CM outlined the State’s proactive measures to combat the crisis.
CM Biren wrote, “Chaired a meeting with Ministers, MLAs, Chief Secretary, security officials and all department officials to review the flood situation in the State, while assessing the ongoing measures to provide necessary aid and assistance to the affected families.”
He added, “Out of the 18 spots where the breach occurred in the embankments of rivers, 17 were sealed and the flooding in the surrounding areas have been successfully brought under control. The efforts to seal the remaining breach and the work to reinforce the embankments are underway.”
The meeting focused on evaluating and enhancing the aid and assistance provided to families affected by the severe flooding.
Earlier, as Cyclone Remal and relentless downpours threatened Manipur, the State swiftly mobilised defences against the natural disaster. CM Biren led a high-level meeting to coordinate the response efforts.
The cyclone’s relentless impact prompted enhanced coordination in rescue, relief, and rehabilitation operations. Under the guidance of Manipur Government Principal Secretary Arun Kumar Sinha, a 24×7 Control Room was established at the Banquet Hall, 1st Bn Manipur Rifles. This command centre facilitates streamlined communication and swift responses to the urgent needs of those affected by the calamity.
Additionally, the Directorate of Information and Public Relations in Manipur disseminated crucial information through press releases. Temporary alternate contact numbers were provided for essential helplines to ensure uninterrupted access to services despite technical issues affecting toll-free lines.
Due to technical problems with the toll-free Child Helpline “1098,” individuals are advised to use alternate numbers “7005120197” or “8132953592” for assistance. Similarly, the Women’s Helpline “181” experienced disruptions, and the alternate number “7005776144” was provided to ensure continuous support for women in distress.
