Prime Minister Narendra Modi, concluding a hectic election campaign, is seen meditating at the iconic Vivekananda Rock Memorial. His first visuals, released by BJP, show him in deep contemplation before a statue of philosopher-saint Swami Vivekanada. PM Modi will continue his meditation at the memorial’s Dhyan Mandapam until the evening of Saturday. This visit has sparked interest as 33-year-old photographs of PM Modi at the same location surfaced on social media, captivating netizens.
The photos, dated December 11, 1991, depict PM Modi during the Ekta Yatra, a journey that began at the Vivekananda Rock Memorial in Kanyakumari and concluded in Kashmir. The images feature Modi alongside BJP veteran Dr Murli Manohar Joshi, paying homage at the statue of Swami Vivekananda.
The Ekta Yatra or Unity March, launched in December 1991, ended on January 26, 1992, with the national flag being hoisted in Srinagar. Led by Murli Manohar Joshi, with Modi playing a pivotal organising role, the march aimed to demonstrate Bharat’s resolve against terrorism and commitment to national unity. Spanning 14 States, the Yatra resonated with the populace, highlighting the nation’s steadfast unity.
This meditation site holds historical significance as it is where Swami Vivekananda meditated in 1892, gaining a visionary outlook for Bharat’s future. The location is also notable for being the meeting point of the Indian Ocean, Bay of Bengal, and Arabian Sea, symbolising national unity – a message underscored by BJP leaders with Modi’s choice of venue.
The marathon Lok Sabha elections, spanning seven phases, will conclude on June 1, with vote counting scheduled for June 4.
