Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal declared his intention to surrender at 3 pm on Sunday as his interim bail in the Delhi liquor policy case expires, marking a pivotal moment in his ongoing legal battle.
Addressing reporters, Kejriwal spoke about his commitment to the fight against what he termed as “tyranny,” expressing his willingness to make sacrifices for the country’s greater good.
“I will leave my house around 3 pm the day after tomorrow to surrender. We are fighting against tyranny, and if I have to sacrifice my life for the country, do not mourn,” Kejriwal asserted, his voice resonating with determination.
During his press briefing, Kejriwal candidly shared the toll his 50-day imprisonment had taken on his health, revealing significant weight loss and ongoing health concerns exacerbated by alleged denial of medication for diabetes while in custody.
“In those 50 days, I lost 6 kilos. Even after being released, I have not regained my weight,” he lamented, expressing the medical community’s apprehension about his well-being.
Despite these adversities, Kejriwal affirmed that his unwavering dedication to Delhi’s welfare persists, reassuring residents that essential services and hallmark initiatives such as free electricity, Mohalla clinics, hospitals, free medicines, and women’s free bus travel will continue unimpeded.
“Even though I won’t be among you physically, do not worry. All your work will continue,” he affirmed, exuding resolve in the face of uncertainty.
In a heartfelt plea, Kejriwal requested prayers for the health and well-being of his elderly parents, acknowledging their vulnerability and the importance of community support during trying times.
“My parents are very old. If you pray for my mother daily, she will surely remain healthy,” he implored, highlighting the profound impact of collective empathy and solidarity.
Kejriwal’s imminent surrender follows his arrest on March 21 by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with a corruption case linked to the now-defunct Delhi liquor policy.
