Manipur’s Sangai International University, situated in Churachandpur, has been removed from the list of recognised UGC universities by the University Grants Commission or UGC.
In a recent notification, the UGC declared that Sangai International University is no longer authorised to confer UGC-approved undergraduate, postgraduate, or PhD degrees to students.
According to the notice, the UGC had repeatedly requested the university to furnish essential information required for inspection, dating back to July 3, 2015, August 12, 2015, and October 21, 2016.
Despite these appeals, the university failed to comply with the UGC’s requests. Consequently, on December 19, 2023, the UGC issued a Show Cause Notice to Sangai International University, providing an opportunity to justify why its name should not be struck off from the list of UGC-recognised institutions. Copies of this notice were also forwarded to Manipur Government’s Higher Education Department, urging swift action.
Subsequent to receiving no response from the university or the Manipur Government, the UGC proceeded with the decision to de-list Sangai International University from its roster of recognised institutions.
In its public announcement, the UGC cautioned prospective students against seeking admission to any programs offered by Sangai International University. It stated that degrees conferred by the university without UGC approval would not be deemed valid for higher education or employment purposes.
Furthermore, the UGC disseminated information regarding the de-listing of Sangai International University, ensuring widespread awareness of its decision among concerned stakeholders, on X.
