Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma inaugurated the Mallangkona Police Outpost in West Khasi Hills district on June 21, underscoring its pivotal role in bolstering security near the Assam border. The outpost aims to reassure residents and prevent untoward incidents while fostering cooperation between both states to resolve border disputes.
Addressing the gathering, CM Sangma emphasized the state government’s proactive stance in addressing border issues with Assam, highlighting ongoing efforts to resolve remaining differences. He assured that enhancing safety and security for residents in border areas remains a top priority.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, MLA R Momin, DGP Meghalaya Idashisha Nongrang, MDC Gigur Myrthong, and other senior police officials.
Expressing gratitude to the local community, Sangma acknowledged their support in the construction of the outpost, which was a long-standing demand of the Mallangkona residents. He praised their involvement, citing it as a model for community participation in developmental projects.
The Mallangkona Police Outpost, funded through the Police Infrastructure Renovation Fund (PIRF) with an investment of Rs 17.5 lakhs, exemplifies the government’s commitment to decentralize decision-making in police infrastructure improvements. Sangma announced plans to replicate similar initiatives in critical locations across Meghalaya, ensuring comprehensive protection for citizens.
