Sheikh Hasina arrived in Bharat for a two-day State visit at the invitation of PM Modi. Upon her arrival, she was warmly welcomed at the airport by the newly-appointed External Affairs Minister of State, Kirtivardhan Singh. This visit is the first incoming bilateral State visit since the formation of the Indian Government following the 18th Lok Sabha elections.
During her visit, Hasina will hold bilateral consultations with Modi and is scheduled to meet President Droupadi Murmu and Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar. S Jaishankar, who had met with PM Hasina earlier, emphasised the “close and abiding ties” between the two nations and appreciated her guidance on further developing this special partnership.
PM Hasina’s participation in significant bilateral activities throughout 2023, including the virtual inauguration of the Bharat-Bangladesh Friendship Pipeline and sessions at the Voice of the Global South Summit, exemplifies the strong and multifaceted relationship between Bharat and Bangladesh, which is grounded in shared history, culture, and geographical proximity.
