In a heated exchange, the BJP has accused the Congress of fabricating claims about cracks on the Atal Setu sea bridge, part of Mumbai’s Trans-Harbour Link or MTHL project, to create division among the public.
Maharashtra Congress chief Nana Patole, accompanied by cameras, pointed to alleged structural issues on the road near Navi Mumbai, suggesting poor construction quality and corruption in the ₹18,000 crore project. However, the BJP and the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority or MMRDA clarified that the reported cracks were on the approach road, not the bridge itself.
“There are no cracks on Atal Setu. The Congress is using lies as part of a long-term plan to create division. These actions will be rejected by the people,” asserted Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
Built at a cost of ₹17,840 crore, the six-lane Atal Setu spans 21.8 km, including a significant section over the sea. Engineers overseeing the project assured that any minor issues with the approach road were promptly addressed to ensure the bridge’s integrity and minimal disruption to traffic.
