Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated TAPOVAN, an Elder Care Home in Sonitpur district of Assam, supported by Diageo India’s CSR initiative in collaboration with BharatCares and the Assam Government.
Dedicated Tapoban- on old age home at Tezpur, which will take care of the elders who will have a place to call their own.

The inauguration ceremony included Deba Kumar Mishra, District Commissioner of Sonitpur, Prithviraj Rabha, MLA of Tezpur, Dr Lakshmi Goswami, President of Indian Council for Child Welfare – Tezpur, along with senior government officials and dignitaries from Tezpur. Ashish Parikh, EVP & Chief Operating Officer of Diageo India, handed over the completed project during the event.
TAPOVAN features essential amenities such as bedrooms, washrooms, dining area, kitchen, and a recreation area designed to be accessible for Persons with Disabilities (PwD).
CM Himanta acknowledged Diageo India’s contribution, stating, “Diageo India has generously donated TAPOVAN in Sonitpur under their CSR fund. The completion of the ground floor is a significant milestone, with plans for further expansion already in motion to meet the growing demand. The Indian Council for Child Welfare will oversee operations at TAPOVAN.”
Ashish Parikh asserted Diageo India’s commitment to social responsibility, saying, “TAPOVAN reflects our ongoing efforts to promote Diversity and Inclusion, particularly among vulnerable groups like elderly citizens. We are committed to advancing our CSR initiatives in Assam as part of our Society 2030 ESG plan.”
Diageo India’s CSR efforts in Assam extend beyond TAPOVAN to enhancing healthcare facilities, including donations of medical equipment and advanced life support ambulances to civil hospitals. Their ‘Learning for Life’ programme also contributes to employability in the State, focusing on hospitality training certified by the National Skill Development Council (NSDC), with a significant emphasis on empowering women beneficiaries.
