The Manipur Government led by Chief Minister N Biren Singh has taken decisive action by releasing funds to support candidates from hilly districts who travelled outside the State to participate in the UPSC Civil Services Examination 2024. This initiative comes in response to directives issued by the Supreme Court amidst ongoing ethnic tensions.
Due to the prevailing ethnic violence, aspiring civil service candidates, particularly from the Kuki community, opted not to travel to Imphal for their exams. Consequently, many exam centres were relocated, necessitating financial assistance for these candidates, which was sought through a petition to the Supreme Court.
Imphal East District Deputy Commissioner Khumanthem Diana Devi confirmed the disbursement of funds in a public announcement. Each eligible candidate will receive Rs 3,000 per day for three days, totalling Rs 9,000 per candidate.
While the preliminary exams were conducted on June 16, applications for financial assistance are still being processed. The State Government has set a deadline of June 25 for the submission of applications.
Candidates are required to submit their applications along with supporting documents, including their UPSC-CSE admit cards, bank account details, and residential certificates to avail of the financial support.
