In light of the severe flood situation in Assam, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that by-elections in the flood-affected areas will be postponed.
During a media interaction in Jakhalabandha, Kaliabor, he stated, “There is no chance of conducting the by-election for at least 2 months from now. The election will be conducted after the flood situation comes to normalcy.”
Himanta Sarma stressed the State’s focus on relief and recovery efforts before considering any electoral processes. “For these few days, the MPs will oversee the constituencies,” he mentioned, ensuring that the constituencies will be managed by the Members of Parliament until the by-elections can be safely conducted.
This interim arrangement aims to maintain governance and support for the affected areas until the situation stabilises.
