Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma recently pinpointed that the Bangladesh-origin minority community overwhelmingly voted for the Congress party in the latest Lok Sabha polls.
Speaking at a felicitation event for Bharatiya Janata Party or BJP winners and allies at the party’s State headquarters in capital city Guwahati, CM Himanta asserted, “They (minority people) may be residing in houses given by (Prime Minister Narendra) Modi, availing electricity and sanitation facilities provided by (Prime Minister Narendra) Modi, but when they go to vote, they vote for Congress.”
pic.twitter.com/u4TYfjePP9

The Assam CM accused the community of engaging in “communalism”, suggesting that their votes were concentrated in minority-dominated areas. He mentioned 50 per cent of the Congress’ 39 per cent vote share in the State was concentrated in 21 Assembly segments dominated by minorities, where the BJP received only 3 per cent of the vote.
“This proves that Hindus do not indulge in communalism. If anyone indulges in communalism in Assam, it is only one community, one religion. No other religion does it,” he stated.
Himanta Sarma further criticised the voting patterns in minority areas, suggesting that despite lacking infrastructure like roads and electricity, these communities have consistently supported Congress.
Highlighting the efforts of the BJP-led Government, the CM noted that even though significant development work was carried out, these communities did not fully back the saffron party.
He claimed that except for Karimganj, in centres with a majority of Bangladesh-origin people, 99 per cent of votes went to Congress. The CM alleged that the Bangladesh-origin community aims to “control the State in the next 10 years” by continuing to support Congress.
The BJP and its allies secured 92 out of 126 Assembly segments in this Lok Sabha election, marking the highest ever victory for any ruling alliance in the State, he added.
