The title highlights Srinagar’s deep-rooted cultural heritage and the exceptional craftsmanship of its artisans, who are revered worldwide for their skill and dedication.
Commending the artisans for their talent, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha mentioned their pivotal role in preserving Srinagar’s cultural legacy. He affirmed a commitment to supporting artisans and leveraging this recognition for community development.
“We are dedicated to ensuring that this designation translates into tangible benefits for our artisans, promoting economic prosperity and sustainability,” Sinha asserted.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s steadfast support for Jammu and Kashmir’s handicraft and handloom industries was highlighted, accentuating the potential of the ‘World Craft City’ status to drive innovation and infrastructure development.
Anticipated outcomes include increased investment, modernisation alongside preservation of traditional craftsmanship methods, and empowerment of local artisans.
