In a heartbreaking incident, 32-year-old Dasari Gopikrishna, an Indian national from Bapatla district in Andhra Pradesh, was fatally shot during a robbery at a convenience store in Pleasant Grove, Dallas, Texas. Gopikrishna had moved to the United States just eight months ago.
The robbery took place on June 21 at a gas station convenience store. Gopikrishna sustained critical injuries during the incident and was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital. Despite efforts to save him, he succumbed to his injuries on Sunday morning.
Consul General DC Manjunath, who was in Dallas for a Yoga Day event, confirmed the tragic news, clarifying that it was unrelated to a previously reported shooting in Arkansas. Expressing his condolences, Manjunath stated, “We are deeply saddened to learn about the tragic demise of Indian national Gopi Krishna Dasari in a robbery shooting incident at Pleasant Grove, Dallas, TX. We are in touch with local family members.”
The Indian Consulate, along with support from Indian associations, is working to provide all possible assistance to facilitate the repatriation of Gopikrishna’s body to Bharat. This includes navigating local formalities such as the autopsy and obtaining death certificates.
The incident has profoundly impacted the Indian community in Dallas and the surrounding areas. Gopikrishna is survived by his wife and son, who now face an uncertain future due to this senseless act of violence.
