The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has announced the immediate dissolution of its Assam organisation in preparation for the upcoming 2026 Assembly elections.
In a statement released via the party’s official channels, AAP emphasised the necessity of fortifying its structure as it gears up for the electoral battle ahead.
The current State president, State secretary, and State treasurer will continue to serve until a new organisational framework is established.
AAP has formed a Working Committee tasked with restructuring the party, led by Dr Bhaben Choudhury as convenor, and including Manoj Dhanowar as co-convenor, alongside members Rajiv Saikia, Mamun Imdadul Haque Chaudhary, Rishiraj Kaundinya, and Anurupa Dekaraja.
Meanwhile, Assam Chief Minister and BJP leader Himanta Biswa Sarma has expressed optimism regarding the BJP-led NDA’s prospects in the 2026 elections, aiming to secure between 90 to 100 seats.
In the previous Lok Sabha elections, BJP clinched nine out of 11 contested seats, while allies Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) secured one seat each out of two.
The Congress-led INDIA bloc managed to secure three seats out of the total 14 Lok Sabha constituencies in Assam.
The Assam Legislative Assembly comprises 126 constituencies, setting the stage for a keenly contested electoral battleground in 2026.
