Mehtab Chandee, wife of Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, is among the leading contenders for the upcoming Gambegre bypolls, according to media reports.
Following a significant loss in the recent Lok Sabha elections, the National People’s Party or NPP is gearing up for the Gambegre bypolls, with party leaders evaluating potential candidates.
Reports indicate that the ruling party in Meghalaya has more than 10 possible candidates, including CM Sangma’s wife Mehtab Chandee, his sister Agatha Sangma, and his brother James PK Sangma.
Although the final list of contenders has not been announced, media sources suggest strong support within the party for Mehtab Chandee and Agatha Sangma. Other names under consideration include Linekar K Sangma, Rakesh Sangma, Ambrose Ch Marak, and Nehru Sangma.
