Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma commemorated the International Day Against Drug Abuse by reaffirming the State’s commitment to eradicating drugs. He shared a video on X where he was seen personally driving a JCB over thousands of seized drug bottles, symbolising Assam’s ongoing battle against narcotics.
Assam has been waging a war against drugs, striking at this menace at regular intervals and recovering drugs worth over ₹2,100 crore.

CM Himanta emphasised the State’s vigorous efforts in combating drug trafficking, noting, “Assam has waged a relentless war against drugs, seizing contraband worth over Rs 2,100 crore. We are dedicated to achieving a Drug-Free Assam, ensuring our children lead healthy lives free from the menace of narcotics.”
Under Himanta Sarma’s leadership, Assam has escalated its anti-drug operations, resulting in significant seizures and arrests. The State’s strategy includes awareness campaigns, rehabilitation initiatives, and stringent law enforcement to tackle the drug crisis effectively.
The symbolic act of crushing drug bottles highlights the government’s determination and the success of its anti-drug measures. Himanta Sarma’s proactive stance has resonated well with the public and garnered attention on social media, reinforcing Assam’s firm stance against drug abuse.
Meanwhile, Assam STF and Cachar Police successfully carried out anti-narcotics operation during which a vehicle was intercepted at Silchar and 900 gms of heroin valued at ₹4.5 crore was recovered.
The heroin was being transported from a neighbouring State and one person has been apprehended in this regard.
CM Himanta commended their work saying “Good job Team Assam Police! Let’s continue to take this threat head on and protect our youth”.
