The Supreme Court has taken a significant step by issuing a notice to the National Testing Agency or NTA in response to a petition filed by a learning app alleging irregularities in the NEET-UG exams conducted recently. The court has directed the NTA to respond to the notice by July 8, setting the stage for a hearing on the matter.
The petition raised serious concerns about the integrity of the NEET-UG examination held on May 5. Allegations include claims that over 1,500 students received grace marks, which has allegedly skewed the fairness and transparency of the exam results announced on June 4.
In parallel to the Supreme Court’s action, the Central Bureau of Investigation-CBI has initiated investigations into multiple cases related to alleged paper leaks and exam irregularities. This probe, spanning across several States, has already led to interrogations and arrests connected to the case.
The petitioners, represented by a coaching centre and affected students, have asserted on the importance of transparency, demanding access to their Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) sheets for verification.
During a joint sitting of Parliament today, President Droupadi Murmu reiterated the government’s commitment to investigating allegations surrounding exam malpractice.
“The government is resolute in ensuring that examinations are conducted with integrity and transparency. Any obstruction in examinations is unacceptable,” President Murmu stated. “We are committed to a thorough investigation and strict punishment for those found guilty in the recent incidents of paper leaks.”
The developments surrounding NEET-UG continue to unfold as stakeholders await further proceedings from both the judiciary and investigative agencies.
