Former Indian football captain Bhaichung Bhutia has made a significant career shift, joining the panel for EURO 2024 after announcing his departure from electoral politics.
The 47-year-old made his decision public on June 25 following his defeat in the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections in Sikkim, where he contested from the Barfung seat.
“After the 2024 election results, I have come to the realisation that electoral politics is simply not my path. Therefore, I am stepping away from all forms of electoral politics with immediate effect,” Bhutia stated in a released statement.
He lost to Rikshal Dorjee Bhutia of the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha by 4,346 votes, marking his sixth electoral defeat in the past decade.
Renowned for his skill and leadership on the football field, Bhutia now sets his sights on EURO 2024, where his addition to the panel has sparked enthusiasm among football fans worldwide.
Meanwhile, Manchester City continues to dominate headlines with their relentless pursuit of talent.
Fresh off four consecutive Premier League titles, the club is reportedly targeting a player with a £51 million release clause, someone poised to leave a lasting impact on EURO 2024.
