Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath launched a scathing attack on the Samajwadi Party following remarks by its MP RK Chaudhary regarding the Sengol, describing it as a symbol of monarchy. Adityanath accused the party of showing disregard for Tamil culture.
“The Samajwadi Party’s lack of respect for Indian history and culture is evident in their leaders’ remarks on the Sengol, which are condemnable and reflect their ignorance,” stated CM Yogi Adityanath in a social media post.
He further criticised the INDI Alliance for their alleged animosity towards Tamil culture, emphasising, “The Sengol is a source of pride for Bharat, and it is an honour that PM Narendra Modi accorded it the highest respect in Parliament.”
SP MP RK Chaudhary’s recent comments sparked widespread political controversy, with numerous leaders denouncing his statement. Chaudhary referred to the Sengol as ‘Raja ka danda’ and called for its removal from Parliament, asserting the supremacy of the Constitution over symbols of monarchy.
“The Constitution symbolises democracy. The BJP Government, under PM Modi’s leadership, installed the Sengol in Parliament. ‘Sengol’ translates to ‘Raj-Dand’ or ‘Raja ka Danda’. With the abolition of princely states, Bharat became independent. Should the country be governed by ‘Raja ka danda’ or the Constitution? I demand the removal of Sengol from Parliament to uphold the Constitution,” stated Chaudhary.
