Amid a surge in reported cases of sexual assault in parts of Assam following the Congress party’s victories in three Lok Sabha seats, Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma sharply criticised the Opposition. He expressed concern over the deteriorating law and order situation and questioned what could unfold if such trends continued under Congress leadership.
Addressing reporters, CM Himanta highlighted recent incidents in Dhekiajuli as emblematic of escalating unrest. He asserted that Assam had experienced relative calm over the past three years, contrasting sharply with the recent surge which he noted occurred “in the last three days” following the Congress wins.
“The people of Assam must reflect deeply on the implications of this violence spiking right after Congress’s electoral success in these constituencies. What will happen to our State if such trends persist?” emphasised the CM.
His remarks follow Assam Minister Pijush Hazarika’s concerns, detailed in a June 26 Facebook post, highlighting ongoing incidents since the Lok Sabha elections.
