Imphal witnessed a huge rally advocating for the preservation of Manipur’s territorial integrity amidst current crises.
Organised by the Coordinating Committee of Manipur Integrity, the protest gathered thousands of participants from various backgrounds. They marched from Imphal’s THAU Ground to Khuman Lampak under the banner Manipur Kanba Khongchate (to protect and safeguard Manipur).
Demonstrators voiced several demands, including an end to perceived efforts to marginalise indigenous communities, cessation of divide-and-rule policies, and eradication of narco-terrorism by expelling infiltrators involved in narcotics. They called for the immediate abrogation of the Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreement with narco-terrorists and swift implementation of the National Register of Citizens (NRC).
Chants of “Long Live Manipur,” “Don’t Disintegrate Manipur,” and “Manipur Mother Outshine All” resounded through the streets as protesters emphasised the urgent need for resolution without compromising Manipur’s unity. Notable participants included Meitei MLAs Sapam Nishikanta and Thangjam Arun, highlighting political solidarity in the cause.
The rally demonstrated the collective determination of Manipur’s people to safeguard their homeland’s integrity and confront ongoing challenges decisively.
