The Sikkim Transport Department has introduced a cashless digital payment system for bus bookings, aiming to streamline transactions and enhance convenience for passengers.
Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu highlighted that this initiative aligns with the department’s efforts to reduce cash transactions. The system offers several digital payment options for booking Sikkim Nationalised Transport (SNT) buses.
UPI Payment via Paytm Soundbox: Paytm Soundbox devices equipped with QR codes are available at all booking counters across the State, including the Siliguri office. Passengers can scan these QR codes to make payments.
UPI Payment via Paytm Stickers: Paytm stickers with QR codes are affixed to all SNT buses. Passengers can scan these QR codes for convenient payments.
Debit or Credit Card Payment: Point of Sale (PoS) machines are installed at the Gangtok and Siliguri booking offices. Passengers can swipe their debit or credit cards or scan QR codes on these devices for payment.
Online Bus Ticket Booking: Tickets can be booked online through platforms like RedBus, PhonePe, and associated service providers.
SIKKIM CAB Mobile App: The SIKKIM CAB Mobile App also facilitates online bus ticket bookings.
It’s important to note that this digital payment system applies to all SNT buses except SNT Undertaking buses. This step is expected to modernise bus booking processes, making them more efficient and user-friendly for travellers across Sikkim.
