Nag Ashwin’s highly anticipated film Kalki 2898 AD, featuring Prabhas and Deepika Padukone, hit theaters on Thursday. The film made a historic debut and raked in ₹95.3 crore on its opening day, making it the third biggest opener of all time. However, the second day saw a significant drop in earnings, with the film collecting ₹54 crore on Friday.
According to Sacnilk, the total net collection in Bharat now stands at ₹149.3 crore. Breaking down the numbers, the Telugu version of the film brought in ₹25.65 crore, the Tamil version earned ₹3.5 crore, the Hindi dub collected ₹22.5 crore, and the Kannada and Malayalam versions garnered ₹0.35 crore and ₹2 crore, respectively.
Kalki 2898 AD boasts an impressive ensemble cast including superstars Prabhas and Deepika Padukone, along with legendary actors Amitabh Bachchan and Kamal Haasan. Disha Patani also plays a significant role in the film. The movie was released in multiple languages on June 27.
Film critic Saibal Chatterjee awarded the film 2.5 stars out of 5. In his review, he highlighted Prabhas’s strong performance, stating, “Prabhas leads the way, not just because the film revolves around him, but his presence balances Amitabh Bachchan’s towering portrayal of Ashwatthama, the deathless warrior. Bachchan’s distinctive voice adds depth to his character.”
“Deepika Padukone shines as a central figure, playing a pregnant woman on the run with great aplomb. Saswata Chatterjee, as the antagonist who shoots lethal laser rays from his fist, has his moments in a film that often lets its spectacle overshadow its message about mankind and the dangers of its own excesses,” he added.
