Severe flooding has cut off Arunachal’s Kurung Kumey located near the China border, including its headquarters in Koloriang, from the rest of the country. The district experienced a devastating overflow from the Kurung River, disrupting connectivity to several key areas such as Porsiparlo, Damin, Pania Sang, Sarli, and Polosang. Pani Taram, the local MLA of the 21st Koloriang constituency, found himself stranded while travelling to Koloriang on June 30.
Local authorities and emergency services are actively assessing the damage and organising relief efforts for affected residents. Continuous rainfall over the past five days has caused rivers in the Namsai district and Wakro circle of Lohit district to exceed their danger levels, impacting 34 villages in total. Water Resources Division official CJ Mannou issued a warning today about the severe flooding devastating communities in the region.
The Kamlang River’s overflow into the Barreng River and the Tengapani River’s surge into the Tiyang River have worsened the situation, posing significant threats to nearby villages. Additionally, the Jengthu and Noa-Dehing rivers are flowing at dangerously high levels, raising concerns about potential bank erosion and further damage.
