At least, 11 Bangladeshi nationals, including five women, were apprehended at Agartala Railway Station for illegally entering Tripura. They intended to travel to other Indian States in search of employment, according to a police officer from the Government Railway Police (GRP) station.
The arrests were made on Saturday, and the individuals were presented in court the following day. During interrogation, they could not provide any valid documentation, said Tapash Das, the officer-in-charge of the GRP station. The detainees claimed they planned to go to Odisha, Kolkata, or Bangalore in search of jobs.
This incident follows the arrest of two Bangladeshi nationals at the same station two days prior, who were also attempting to reach Karnataka. Additionally, on June 26, five individuals, including four Bangladeshi women, were arrested while trying to leave the State from Agartala Railway Station. Three days earlier, nine Bangladeshi nationals, including six women, were detained at the station while attempting to board a train to other Indian states for employment opportunities.
Authorities suspect that Agartala Railway Station is being used as a corridor for trafficking, highlighted by recent arrests involving drug peddlers, gun runners, and human traffickers.
