Tripura’s Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy announced a significant achievement, revealing that the State collected over Rs 3,000 crore in taxes during the fiscal year 2022-23 across various sectors. This milestone was celebrated during the inauguration of the 8th GST Day celebrations at Pragna Bhavan, where top tax-paying businesses were honoured.
Singha Roy highlighted the State Government’s commitment to fiscal responsibility, stating, “Over the last six years, the current government has refrained from imposing any additional tax burden on our citizens. However, in FY 2022-23, we have successfully collected more than Rs 3,000 crore in taxes from various sectors. This steady increase in revenue reflects collaborative efforts between the government and taxpayers.”
Highlighting the role of infrastructure in regional development, Singha Roy credited improved connectivity under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership. “Since 2014, connectivity across Northeast Bharat, including Tripura, has seen remarkable enhancement. With 19 operational rail services and improved air connectivity, our State is set for further growth. The upcoming Maitri Setu facilitating trade through Bangladesh’s Chittagong Port will enhance economic development,” he added.
Finance Department Secretary Apoorba Roy mentioned about the impact of GST, noting that the State generated approximately Rs 1,899 crore from this sector alone in FY 2022-23. He expressed optimism, projecting a 15 per cent growth in tax collection from GST over the next five years.
