Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal recently met with Union Minister JP Nadda to discuss the expansion plans of the Brahmaputra Valley Fertiliser Corporation Ltd (BVFCL) in Assam’s Namrup.
The focus of their discussion was on the proposed investment of Rs 500 crore to establish two new Nano Urea Plants within the BVFCL compound. This initiative aims to modernise existing facilities and enhance production capabilities, marking a significant step towards regional economic empowerment.
Sonowal expressed optimism about the project’s impact, highlighting that these State-of-the-art plants, including a nano DAP plant, will revolutionise agricultural practices in Assam. The initiative is expected to generate numerous job opportunities, particularly benefiting local youth, while meeting the increasing demand for agricultural fertilizers.

Aligned with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for boosting capital industries in Northeast Bharat, the initiative highlights efforts to harness local resources and stimulate sustainable economic growth.
Beyond industrial expansion, the project includes plans for social infrastructure enhancements such as a community hall and improved sports facilities for children in Namrup. These improvements aim to elevate overall quality of life and create holistic regional development.
The proposed investment represents a strategic move by the government to leverage technological advancements in agriculture, positioning Namrup as a crucial hub for fertilizer production in the region.
With assurances from Minister JP Nadda on timely construction commencement, the project is set to catalyse transformative economic growth, reinforcing Assam’s pivotal role in Bharat’s agricultural sector.
