The BJP led Tripura Government has announced a ban on the registration of new three-wheeler passenger and goods vehicles in State capital Agartala starting from July 10. This measure aims to alleviate congestion in the city and promote sustainable urban mobility within the limits of Agartala Municipal Corporation in West Tripura district.
According to an order from the State Transport Department, the ban includes various types of vehicles such as e-rickshaws, e-carts, e-autos, petrol and diesel autos, CNG autos, and those driven by bio-fuel (methanol and ethanol).
“The notification aims to manage traffic congestion, ensure public safety, and promote alternative transportation methods,” the order stated.
It directed the Transport Commissioner and District Transport Officer (DTO) of West Tripura to ensure strict compliance with the ban. The government also reserved the right to review and amend the notification as necessary to evaluate its impact on urban mobility.
