Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha inaugurated the District Institution for Education and Training-DIET at Jalbasa, Panisagar in the North District, underlining the importance of education in societal success.
Addressing the gathering, Dr Saha highlighted the Central Government’s commitment to enhancing the education system through numerous schemes. He stressed the significance of education in the development of the State, noting that it remains a top priority.
“We now have five District Institutes of Education & Training, including the newly inaugurated DIET at Jalbasa. Yesterday, we identified weaknesses and sought advice from educationists to improve our educational infrastructure,” said Dr Saha.
Dr Saha spoke about Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s initiatives aimed at national development and educational reform. He highlighted the implementation of the National Education Policy in Tripura, aligning State education with national standards.
“For the 2023-24 Financial Year, the Central Government has allocated ₹1,12,899 crore, highlighting its emphasis on education,” Dr Saha added.

He announced the allocation of ₹128 crore for the upcoming Vidya Pravesh Scheme, designed as a three-month play-based school preparation module focused on sports and games.
“Our government is committed to launching this program to enhance early education readiness. Additionally, initiatives like PM e-Vidya for digital and online education and the DISHA Scheme for teacher training have been implemented,” Dr Saha elaborated.
As the State’s Education Minister, Dr Saha asserted on ongoing efforts to modernise educational infrastructure.
“Infrastructure and manpower are crucial. Recently, we inaugurated new school buildings in Gandacherra and the South District, and a girls’ hostel in Sonamura,” Dr Saha concluded.
The BJP led Tripura Government is committed to development in sports field apart from education. Since the establishment of the BJP Government, multiple synthetic turf football fields, swimming pools, sports complexes and other sports infrastructure facilities have been connected across the State.
Regarding this the CM further stated, “In this direction, today we inaugurated the newly constructed Dr Arunabh Roy Synthetic Athletic Track under the “Khelo India” project at the Regional College of Physical Education, Panisagar.”
